The anti-wolf collar solution adaptable to all farms.
Faced with wolf attacks on livestock herds, there are different herd protection tools. The best known are the herd protection dog, the electric restraint net and the shepherd’s helpers. A new protection tool has been appearing for several months: the anti-wolf collar.
Predator repellent with flashing lights and ultrasonic alarm, it effectively protects flocks of sheep, goats, horses and cattle against attacks by wolves. More than 6 years of tests have validated its effectiveness and become a herd protection tool. The anti-wolf collar is easy to use, robust, reliable and waterproof.

What are the herd protection tools
In France, the wolf causes a lot of damage to livestock herds. If the wolf attacks sheep, more and more attacks are recorded on heifers and horses. To avoid its damage, herd protection tools exist.
There are different herd protection tools , the main ones are as follows:
- Herd protection dogs (CPT): these are massive dogs, of the Pyrenees mountain or Anatolian shepherd breed for example. Their role is to watch over the flock, to dissuade the wolf from attacking the flock of sheep.
- Electric containment nets: mesh nets, their aim is to contain the herd but also the intrusion of predators by sending them an electric shock if their snout touches the net.
- The shepherd’s helper. His job is to watch over the herd, but also to lead it. In his surveillance tasks, day and night, he must prevent predators, such as wolves, from approaching or attacking the herd. Its mere presence should deter predators from approaching.
A new protection tool, the anti-wolf collar
Since 2023, an anti-wolf collar has been available. It’s a repellent with flashing lights and an ultrasonic alarm. The collar is placed around the neck of the animals at the ratio of one collar per 8 animals.
The collar monitors the herd through its movement sensors. When animals, cows, sheep or horses are stressed or flee following an attack by one or more wolves, powerful flashes of light and ultrasound are broadcast for around twenty seconds. They will surprise the wolf, disturb it and dissuade it from attacking. These repellents are triggered as long as the herd is trotting. The colored light flashes, the diffusion times and the different flashing programs operate randomly, to avoid any habituation.
This herd protection tool is effective with many types of animal herds, such as sheep, goats, cattle and horses. It can be used with many breeding techniques, batches of animals, mountain pastures, etc., in the mountains or in the plains. The CAL is easy to use and efficient. The batteries last for more than a year of use. It is waterproof.
Conclusive tests
To prove its effectiveness, numerous tests were carried out over more than 6 years in France on various farms. The method used was as follows. Attacked flocks of sheep in particular were equipped with anti-wolf collars at a minimum ratio, for good effectiveness, of 1 collar for 8 animals. Nearby, other herds also attacked served as a control group, having no other means of protection than enclosures or nets.
The results were very positive. The experiments were carried out on 50 batches of animals (sheep, cattle) of 3 to 200 animals, over several years, in the same locations, the equivalent of more than 1000 livestock. There were only four predations (2 sheep, 1 injured cattle, 1 equine). The control lots, located nearby (3km radius), not equipped with collars, suffered more than 41 attacks with more than 74 animals killed.
In 2024, the number of attacks relative to the number of batches was also very low. Here is a summary table, by year, of the effectiveness of anti-wolf collars. The effectiveness rate is over 85%.
Breeders who use this new anti-wolf collar are very satisfied.
Example of feedback
Emilie sheep breeder in Haute-Savoie “ It’s a tool that you shouldn’t deprive yourself of. All means alone are not completely effective, so you have to combine lots of things to protect yourself. Here the tourist constraint is such that it is extremely complicated for the management of dogs. Anti-wolf collars do not attack tourists. I can’t say it’s not effective. »
